How it works (why the system extension)

ProxyRouter uses macOS's Network Extension (transparent proxy) to route traffic per app. On first launch, macOS will ask you to approve the extension in System Settings → Privacy & Security. This is Apple's standard mechanism and runs entirely on your machine.

You bring your own

ProxyRouter contains no proxy core and provides no nodes or subscriptions. You need your own SOCKS5 or HTTP proxy upstream (self-hosted or third-party) to route traffic to. The Software only decides which app goes to which proxy.

Distribution & updates

Distributed as a Developer ID-signed, Apple-notarized DMG from this site, with built-in auto-updates. Not on the Mac App Store (a limitation of the system extension it needs).
